The Czech-German border areas, formerly also known as the Sudetenland, have a very troubled past. Following the expulsion of ethnic Germans, many villages remained abandoned, and this fact continues to have an impact to this day. The book Obnova krajiny česko-německého pohraničí [Renewal of the Czech-German Border Landscape] maps out an international landscape challenge for partial restoration of the former village of Výškovice and describes the historical context that was its cause. The book uses the entire project’s visual identity, created by the Černý Beran duo, which analogously to the subject matter gradually coalesces from the first to the last page of the book.
